Frequently Asked Questions

Just yourself and your instrument (if you have one). If you're learning piano or voice, you don’t need to bring anything—just come as you are. We even have extra guitars on hand if you don’t have one yet, or it’s too much bother to bring to the studio. We'll provide everything you need to get started. Bonus points if you bring a water bottle to your singing lesson.

We offer 45-minute and 60-minute lessons. The right length depends on your level, learning style, and how much you want to explore in each session. Beginners often start with 45 minutes to ease in, while more experienced students—or those who just love a deep dive—may prefer a full hour. We’ll chat about what feels right for you, and you’re always welcome to adjust as you go.

Weekly lessons are the sweet spot for most students—it’s often enough to build momentum without feeling overwhelming. Some students choose fortnightly lessons if that suits their lifestyle better. Some more experienced musicians just come in for a tune-up every now and then. We’ll chat together and find a rhythm that works for you.

The studio is located on St Kilda Road, in St Kilda. It’s easily accessible by public transport - 10min walk from Balaclava station, or 2min walk from the nearest tram stop. There’s also metered parking right outside, and free street parking down nearby side streets.

Not at all! We work with students of all levels—beginners, returners, and self-taught adventurers. Reading music can be a great tool, but it’s not the only way to learn. We’ll go at your pace and teach in a way that fits your goals.

Life happens—we get it! We just ask for 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your lesson. That gives us a chance to offer your spot to someone else. If it’s a true last-minute emergency, we’ll always do our best to work something out.

Totally. Many of our students are picking up music for the first time (or the first time in a while), and it’s a big, brave thing to do. You’ll be met with warmth, encouragement, and no pressure to "get it right." This is a space for growth, expression, and enjoying the process.

If you want to come in with a friend or two and jam out together - we are more than happy to accomodate! The more the merrier! It should be noted that with more people, the less personalised attention and support you get individually. If you're really wanting progress on your strengths and weaknesses, you might want to look at 1on1 lessons.
